BEIRUT — The Lebanese army announced Tuesday that it had arrested a man in Akkar accused of fatally shooting another man at a wedding in Tripoli on Saturday evening.

The wedding, in Tripoli's Abi Samra neighborhood, took a tragic turn after an argument between the bride and groom's families degenerated into gunfire, killing the bride's brother.

The suspect allegedly fled the scene.

"A Lebanese Army patrol arrested the citizen A.D. in Meshmesh jurd [the outskirts of town] for opening fire during a wedding in Abi Samra, Tripoli, on Saturday, killing another citizen," the army said.

Incidents involving firearms are frequent in Lebanon, where weapons are widely circulated among the population.
