BEIRUT — Hezbollah spokesman Mohammad Afif Naboulsi revealed to L'Orient-Le Jour on Friday that the party expects to recover "in the next few days" the ammunition confiscated by the Lebanese Army in the wake of Wednesday evening's shootout in Kahaleh.
"We have not yet recovered the ammunition. But I believe we will in the next few days," Naboulsi told L'Orient-Le Jour.
The Lebanese Army said in a statement on Thursday that the ammunition seized had "been transferred to a military barracks," adding that an investigation has been opened.
On Wednesday, a Hezbollah-owned truck carrying ammunition overturned when traveling through the Aley town of Kahaleh. The incident escalated to armed clashes between the area's residents and Hezbollah gunmen in civilian clothes. Two people, including one Hezbollah member, were killed in the firefight.
