BEIRUT — Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri met on Thursday with head of the National Security and Foreign Policy Committee of the Iranian parliament, Vahid Jalalzadeh, who officially invited Berri to visit Tehran.
The meeting took place in Ain al-Tineh in the presence of the Iranian ambassador to Lebanon, Mojtaba Amani. The meeting revolved around the situation in Lebanon and the region, as well as the bilateral relationships between Lebanon and Iran.
Following the meeting, Jalalzadeh said that one of the main goals of the visit is to "consolidate parliamentary relations between the Lebanese Parliament and the [Iranian] Shura Council."
Jalalzadeh added that Iran stands with Lebanon in its "resistance and confrontation against the Israeli enemy."
Moreover, he said that Iran stands with Lebanon and the Lebanese people "to overcome the difficult economic and financial ordeal that they are going through at the present time."
Finally, he concluded that he submitted an "official invitation addressed by the Speaker of the Shura Council, Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf to his "brother" Parliament Speaker Professor Nabih Berri, to visit the Islamic Republic of Iran."
