Attempted murder, extortion, drug dealing and more: ISF announce arrest of a 'most wanted criminal'

BEIRUT — One of the “most wanted and dangerous criminals” has been arrested for attempted murder a of a member of the Information Division, extortion , drug dealing, intimidation, robbery, counterfeiting money, and other crimes, the Internal Security Forces (ISF) stated Friday.

The man had two arrest warrants out for him and two subpoenas for shooting, attempted murder and weapon related crimes. He was also accused of forming a terrorist gang, intimidated citizens and imposing illegal fines on businesses in the southern suburbs of Beirut.

“He is considered one of the most dangerous fugitives," the statement read, adding that he previously served a 13 year prison sentence for murder. 

According to the ISF, the suspect "shot at members of different security institutions several times and threw rocket-propelled grenades at them, the latest of which was an attempt to kill a member of the Information Division [in June] in the Cola locality by shooting him and hitting him with two bullets in the stomach,” the statement said.

Earlier in July, the Special Force in the Information Division carried out an operation in the southern suburbs of Beirut, which led to the arrest of the suspect who was driving a motorcycle without a license plate. He was arrested in possession of a military pistol, dozens of ready to use shots, and drugs.

During his interrogation, he confessed to shooting and blackmailing citizens and to using drugs, the statement said. 

The ISF invite all citizens who might have been victims of the man to contact them.
