BEIRUT — A man fatally shot his relative using a military-grade weapon in Tripoli, North Lebanon, on Friday, L'Orient Today's correspondent in the region reported.

A.D. fatally shot his relative K.D. in front of the education department center in Tripoli, reportedly due to a family feud. The shooting provoked anger from the victim's family and led to an exchange of gunfire and grenades in al-Mankoubin neighborhood.

The injured person was transferred to al-Nini Hospital, where he later died.

In retaliation, the victim's family burned down the shooter's house, and the shooter fled to an unknown destination.

A deployment of Lebanese Army soldiers arrived at the scene to manage the situation.

In September, caretaker Interior Minister Bassam Mawlawi announced a "sustainable" security plan for North Lebanon, following a series of deadly shootings in Tripoli and fears of further violence. However, security incidents continue to occur in the city.
