BEIRUT — A personal dispute between two family members in Bab al-Tabbaneh escalated into an exchange of fire that killed one man and injured another on Wednesday, L’Orient Today’s correspondent in the north reported.
The clashes allegedly broke out between members of the al-Hilweh family and the Awwad family.
A hand grenade was used in the dispute, but it did not explode.
The Lebanese Red Cross transferred the injured men to a hospital for treatment.
The Lebanese Army deployed a small force to the scene to restore calm. Those involved in the incident, especially the shooters, are now being pursued.
Last September, caretaker Interior Minister Bassam Mawlawi announced a "sustainable" security plan for North Lebanon, but no clear measures have been taken since.
