BEIRUT — A ten-year-old Lebanese girl was killed Tuesday evening after she was accidentally stabbed during a fight between two men on Abu al-Fawz street in the Beddawi camp in Tripoli, northern Lebanon.
The girl was rushed to the hospital, a source in the camp told L’Orient Today, but did not survive her injuries.
The girl and her mother were shopping in preparation for Eid al-Adha when a knife fight broke out between the two men. One of the men pushed the other, who fell and unintentionally stabbed the child. The knife cut an artery in her thigh, causing severe bleeding.
Police have launched an investigation to determine the exact circumstances of the incident.
It was not immediately clear whether the two men had been arrested, and the Internal Security Forces were not available to provide further information about the accident.
Last September, caretaker Interior Minister Bassam Mawlawi announced a "sustainable" security plan for North Lebanon, but no clear measures were taken since.
