BEIRUT — Lebanon's state-owned telecommunication company Ogero, announced on Tuesday on its twitter account an ongoing outage since Friday in the Tebbaneh area of Tripoli, following "a power surge on the generators."

This failure has brought service to a halt in the localities concerned and surrounding areas, Ogero added.

Maintenance teams are working to repair the fault, Ogero said. Outages have occurred regularly on Ogero's network since the start of the economic crisis in 2019, notably due to lack of electricity supply or equipment theft.

At the end of May, Ogero's funding problem peaked when the organization's managing director declared that 30 stations were at risk of shutting down due to a lack of diesel to power the infrastructure. The transfer of $13.25 million to meet the need to purchase fuel oil and carry out maintenance work finally took place on June 16, after a tug-of-war between Telecoms and Public Finance.
