State Security arrests man suspected of selling fake dollars

BEIRUT — State Security on Thursday said they arrested a man suspected of selling fake dollar bills in the Nabatieh area of southern Lebanon.

In a statement, State Security said the man, identified by the initials M.A., confessed to selling falsified dollar bills for an amount equivalent to $1,000. He reportedly listed for State Security the companies and shops to which he sold these dollars.

Exchanging dollars for Lebanese lira and vice-versa on the parallel market has been commonplace in Lebanon since the onset of a devastating economic crisis in 2019, which as seen the country's national currency lose over 90 percent of its cvalue following the unprecedented economic crisis that Lebanon has been suffering from since more than three years as the Lira fluctuates regularly against the dollar.
