BEIRUT — Caretaker Lebanese Prime Minister Najib Mikati met Wednesday with Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri in Ain al-Tineh, two days before the PM's participation in the Arab League summit, according to a statement from Berri's office.
The summit is scheduled to begin on Friday, May 19 in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.
The two Lebanese officials discussed issues that Mikati — who will chair the Lebanese delegation in Jeddah — intends to address during the event.
"The meeting was positive, as usual. We discussed the points I will raise at the Arab League meeting," Mikati said after the meeting, without offering further elaboration.
This year, the Arab League summit will host Syrian President Bashar al-Assad for the first time since Syria was expelled from the pan-Arab organization in late 2011 over regime crackdowns on protestors during the country's civil war.
