BEIRUT — Lebanon's Internal Security Forces (ISF) on Sunday announced the arrest of a prisoner who had escaped from Beirut's Rafik Hariri University Hospital earlier this week. The ISF added that the prisoner's suspected accomplices in the escape had also been arrested.

In a statement, the ISF said the prisoner, who was in custody on suspicion of a drug-related crime, escaped from the hospital earlier this week with the help of four people, one of whom has an arrest warrant against him.

The ISF did not provide any reason for the prisoner's presence at the hospital.

The fugitive was arrested in a house in Ketermaya, in the Chouf area, south of Beirut, in the company of one of the people suspected of helping him escape.

The ISF also arrested three other suspected accomplices in the areas of Haret al-Naameh in the Chouf, Aramoun in Aley and al-Jnah in Beirut southern suburbs. They seized a blue motorcycle without a license plate and an undisclosed amount of money in their possession.

According to the ISF statement, all five confessed to the charges held against them.
