BEIRUT — Two soldiers and one civilian were injured in armed clashes between the Lebanese Army and armed men in Baalbeck, Bekaa Valley, on Sunday following reported "suspicious vehicle activities" in the area.

In a statement published Monday, the Lebanese Army said its soldiers were shot by armed men. The soldiers then returned fire, leading to the injury of "a citizen" and two military personnel. All three injured people were taken to the hospital.

The Lebanese Army said that it arrested a man, A.A., who is suspected of involvement in the shooting. The man was arrested with an assault weapon, ammunition and an undisclosed amount of hashish.

A four-by-four car was also seized from the scene, along with three assault weapons and three rocket-propelled grenades (RPG) in addition to other ammunition.

An investigation has been launched into the incident.

Armed clashes are not uncommon in Baalbeck and nearby areas where the state has little control.
