BEIRUT — The Internal Security Forces (ISF) said in a statement Monday they arrested two Syrian brothers last week suspected of killing their sister.

The crime took place in Nabi Othman near Baalbeck, the statement said. The alleged killers are aged 26 and 24.

Authorities examined the woman's body and found she had lost her life after being hit on the head with a blunt object.

The ISF arrested the two men, who confessed to killing their sister to "preserve their honor," without giving any further details.

They confessed to taking her to a local cemetery for burial, after making the rest of the family believe that she had died of cardiac arrest.

In 2011, Parliament annulled Article 562 of the penal code, which exempted punishments for so-called "honor killings."
