BEIRUT — Armed clashes broke out in the outskirts of Boudai, in Baalbeck, on Friday during drug trafficking raids by the Lebanese Army, the state-run National News Agency reported.
The clashes were reportedly between a wanted trafficking suspect and army soldiers. Shots were fired and the suspect was injured during his arrest.
Drug trafficking raids are still ongoing in the region, as the army continues to search for additional shooters, the NNA reported.
Security incidents are frequent in Baalbeck, a region where unregistered weapons circulate widely. Fighting between the army and suspected criminals or members of heavily armed gangs is not uncommon.
