Israeli's Iron Dome, the country's mobile air defense system, was activated Wednesday afternoon near Kibbutz Snir, near the Lebanese border, an  Israeli army spokesman announced via Twitter.

"The Iron Dome was activated and two interceptor missiles were fired following a false alarm," said spokesman Avichay Adraee, ruling out the possibility of a "security incident" at the border.

In Lebanon, local media reported earlier in the day that a Lebanese drone was suspected of crossing the border between the two countries and flying over the Israeli settlement of Metula.

A local TV channel had also reported that the Israeli army asked the inhabitants of the areas to report immediately to air raid shelters.

Contacted by L'Orient-Le Jour, the Lebanese Army said that it had no further information, but that investigations are underway to clarify the circumstances of the incident.

The UN Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) could not immediately be reached for comment.
