BEIRUT — The Economy Ministry announced slightly lowered bread prices Wednesday, as the Lebanese lira gained some value since Tuesday's rollercoaster fluctuation, trading at around LL109,000 to the dollar by early afternoon.

The lira had plunged to LL143,000 on Tuesday before regaining some of its value by that evening.

A medium-size bundle of bread, 828 grams, now costs LL39,000, while a large bundle of bread, 1,036 grams, now costs LL47,000. The price of the small bread bundle was not included in the ministry's list.

Both the medium and large bundles dropped LL3,000 since the last price list on Monday.

Bread sector representatives told the state-run National News Agency earlier in March that the time had come to adopt daily pricing of bread due to fluctuations of the lira against the dollar. The Economy Ministry, which sets the price of bread, has not yet announced an official decision in this regard.
