After decreasing last week, the price of Arabic-style bread bundles rose again on Friday due to a significant increase in the parallel market exchange rate and subsequent rise in fuel prices.

The Lebanese lira was trading at approximately LL88,000 to the dollar on Friday evening, compared to LL82,000 almost a week ago.

While there was no change in the price of the small 354-gram packet, which was sold at LL18,000, the medium 837-gram bundle now costs LL33,000.

The large bundle of bread, which previously weighed 1,053 grams and cost LL37,000, now weighs 1,122 grams and costs LL42,000.

Last week's sudden drop in the parallel market exchange rate (from LL92,000 to LL79,000 in one day) followed measures taken by the central bank to boost its Sayrafa exchange platform, raising the rate from LL45,400 to LL70,000 on the dollar.
