BEIRUT — Two people were wounded in a shooting in Tripoli, North Lebanon, on Friday, the state-run National News Agency reported.

Two unidentified men on a motorcycle in the al-Tall neighborhood in Tripoli, opened fire at a man identified as A.K., targeting him and directly hitting him. They also mistakenly wounded a passerby identified as Z.K., according to the NNA.

The shooters reportedly remain at large after having fled the scene.

The two wounded people were transported to the Islamic Hospital in Tripoli. Security officers arrived at the scene and launched an investigation to track down the suspects.

In September, caretaker Interior Minister Bassam Mawlawi announced a "sustainable" security plan for North Lebanon, following deadly shootings in Tripoli that raised fears of more violence.

However, security incidents continue to take place in the city.

In crisis-hit Lebanon, such incidents have become more common in recent years, with weapons possession pervasive in many areas.
