A long-established dispute between members of two rival families, the Darra and the Haidar, degenerated into an exchange of fire in the northern Bekaa Sunday night, leaving one dead and two wounded.

According to L'Orient Today's correspondent in the region, Y. H. Darra, 28 years old, from the village of Younin, died of his wounds on Monday in Dar el-Hekmeh hospital.

Two of his relatives were injured and hospitalized on Sunday.

Violence attributed to familial vendettas is not uncommon in Lebanon. Weapons circulate freely in the Bekaa and the army often struggles to prevent such clashes, especially following the outbreak of Lebanon's economic crisis in 2019.
