BEIRUT — MediTrack, a computerized tracking system for drugs used in the treatment of cancer and incurable diseases developed by the Health Ministry, already includes more than 50 subsidized drugs and some 80 new medications will soon be added, caretaker Health Minister Firass Abiad said during a press conference Monday.

“This system allows people to register on the platform and obtain a unified health number, which allows adding prescriptions to their medical file and ensures that they are prioritized in receiving the necessary medication,” Abiad said.

This system ensures that no one in the logistics chain stores medicines, or smuggles them outside the country, as the medication is being tracked via a barcode.

“Moreover, next Monday, on March 13, a hotline will be launched for citizens to report any difference in prices of medication that they come across in pharmacies in Lebanon that might be illegally priced higher than the official application ‘Medleb’ that has the official prices of medication,” Abiad said.

“Citizens will be able to call 1214 and complain to the ministry and we will take the necessary measures against non-conforming pharmacies which could also lead to them being closed with red wax,” Abiad warned.

Abiad concluded by urging citizens to obtain their medicines through the networks provided by the ministry and not “take their health lightly by attempting to get smuggled medication at a cheaper price from the black market, as those medications are not going through any inspection and could be dangerous to the health of citizens.”
