BEIRUT — Five thawra activists were released on bail Wednesday after appearing before the Beirut Judicial Police at Barbar al-Khazen barracks.
The activists were charged with attempted intrusion into the Ministry of Justice during demonstrations, as well as assault on security forces.
The state-run National News Agency (NNA) reported that Antoine Doueihy, Ibrahim al-Bast, Mayline Sarkis, Mohammad Rustom and Abdel Rahman Zakaria were all released on bail on Wednesday.
There have been several heated demonstrations in front of the Ministry of Justice, organized in particular by families of victims of the deadly explosion of August 4, 2020, at the port of Beirut.
No details were given about the date of the demonstration in which the five activists were charged.
In January, a demonstration by relatives of victims and activists degenerated into clashes with the police, who used batons and tear gas. At least eight people were injured, including a demonstrator in the head.
