BEIRUT — Two successive, light earthquakes were recorded off the Lebanese coast near Saida, South Lebanon, on Wednesday evening, according to Lebquake, the earthquake monitoring application of the National Center for Geophysics.

A light 4.3-magnitude earthquake hit off the coast of South Lebanon Wednesday morning, Lebquake, an app affiliated with the National Center for Geophysics, reported.

The earthquake was felt among some residents in Saida, L'Orient Today's correspondent in the area reported.

Two light earthquakes were also recorded Tuesday morning off the Lebanese coast, near the city of Saida, South Lebanon, the National Center for Geophysics said.

Contacted by L'Orient Today, AUB earthquake researcher Tony Nemer said Wednesday's quake "is like the one that happened yesterday, it's light, like the ones that are happening before the Turkey [earthquake], this one always happens so there is no fear."

Asked about the risk of tsunami since the earthquake was centered in the sea, Nemer said that there would need to be an earthquake of magnitude 6.5, "plus or minus," on the Richter scale for there to be a tsunami risk.

A 6.3-magnitude earthquake hit the Turkey-Syria border region Monday night, sparking panic across Lebanon two weeks after the massive Feb. 6 earthquake in Turkey and Syria that killed more than 46,000 people.

Several aftershocks have shaken Lebanon following the original Feb. 6 quake in Turkey in Syria. The tremors have led some people to flee dilapidated homes, fearing they could collapse.
