Lebanon's Economy Ministry issued a statement Wednesday announcing increased prices for the different packages of Arabic bread.

The small package now weighs 338 grams and is sold for LL16,000, compared to the previous 358 grams for LL15,000, according to the brief ministry statement.

The average package now weighs 812 grams and will cost LL27,000, compared to the previous 837 grams for LL25,000. The large bread package now weighs 1,046 grams and will be sold at LL33,000, compared to the previous 1,054 grams for LL30,000.

For several months, the ministry has justified these increases by citing the surge in fuel prices after the abolition of gas subsidies in 2022, the rate of the dollar against the Lebanese lira on the parallel market, and global wheat prices, which increased following the Russian invasion in Ukraine nearly a year ago.
