New 7.5 magnitude earthquake in Turkey, tremor felt in Lebanon

BEIRUT — An aftershock of a deadly overnight earthquake in Turkey, measuring 7.5 on the Richter scale, was felt on Monday around 12 p.m. in Lebanon, which was also hit by a strong tremor during the night.

According to the USGS website, the aftershock occurred in Turkey at 1:24 p.m., 3km from Elbistan. Nearly 30 aftershocks has already occurred in Turkey between 3:20 a.m. and 1:20 p.m., with magnitudes ranging from 4.3 to 7.5.

People in several neighborhoods in the inner city of Tripoli in North Lebanon, especially those living in already damaged structures, fear the dangers posed by ongoing seismic aftershocks, in addition to the effects of heavy rains and strong winds that have been ongoing on for three days in Lebanon, L'Orient Today's correspondent in the North reported.

This latest earthquake was felt in several states, including Cyprus, Iran, Israel, Syria, Iraq, Georgia and Armenia, according to the Android alert system, whose information is included on the Google search engine.
