BEIRUT — The Lebanese army was on alert Wednesday on the southern border near the Israeli settlement of Metula, close to Marjayoun, over an alleged violation of the border by the Israeli army, the state-run National News Agency reported.

According to the NNA, Israeli bulldozers crossed the Blue Line while trying to clean the area near the "technical fence."

Two Israeli Merkava tanks were present at the scene and the United Nation's Interim Force in Lebanon was working Wednesday to mediate between the two sides, according to the NNA.

While Israeli land violations are relatively rare, Israel violates Lebanese airspace on a near-daily basis.
