BEIRUT — Lebanese General Security announced on Wednesday that it had dismantled a network of counterfeit dollar traffickers operating at Beirut international airport and seized a quantity of counterfeit money destined for Turkey.

In a tweet published on Wednesday, General Security said that some of its agents at the airport are suspected of involvement in the illegal operation.

An unspecified number of suspects were arrested and handed over to the competent authorities, and an investigation into the matter has been opened, the tweet added.

Several similar counterfeiting operations have been foiled in Lebanon in recent months.

In October 2021, a Turkish traveler was arrested as he was about to leave Beirut for Ankara in possession of counterfeit banknotes for an amount equivalent to $220,000.
