BEIRUT — A shepherd was found shot dead along with 40 of his sheep on Monday in the village of Hreija in Koura, North Lebanon, L'Orient Today's correspondent in the area reported.
According to a security source cited by our correspondent, unidentified people opened fire on the shepherd, whose initials are M.L. and who belongs to an Arab tribe from the Anfeh area, while he was staying at a farm located on the road to Qalamoun; the armed individuals then proceeded to shoot the shepherd's flock.
An investigation has been launched into the matter.
The security situation has deteriorated in Lebanon as it struggles to cope with an unprecedented economic crisis that has now been ongoing for more than three years. A national security plan was announced last week by caretaker Interior Minister Bassam Mawlawi ahead of the Christmas and New Year's Eve holidays.
