BEIRUT — A young man, Ali Ibrahim Awwad, was shot dead on Sunday in Baalbeck-Hermel region by young men from the Hamadeh family.
According to a security source, Awwad is a divorced man formerly married to a woman from the Hamada family.
A dispute occurred on Saturday in a hospital in Hermel, after Awwad, accompanied by his father, tried to visit his son.
On Sunday morning, the source pointed out that O. Hamadeh attempted to open a shop with his relatives near Awwad's house, which provoked the latter and resulted in an exchange of fire.
The security situation in the country has deteriorated in recent years amid a persistent economic crisis, which has plunged more than three-quarters of the population into poverty.
On Thursday, caretaker Interior Minister Bassam Mawlawi announced a national security plan ahead of the Christmas and New Year's Eve holidays.
Despite this plan, a man was injured on Saturday night in Qibbeh, Tripoli, when he was hit by a bullet after a dispute between two families escalated into armed clashes.
On Monday, a man was shot in the head following a traffic dispute in Tripoli. The incident took place as the Internal Security Forces began implementing another security plan for Tripoli following a recent series of violent incidents in the city.
