BEIRUT — The customs bureau of the Beirut International Airport announced Friday evening that it had intercepted an attempt to smuggle more than two kilos of cocaine into the country, the state-run National News Agency reported.
The cocaine was in the possession of a Lebanese passenger traveling from Brazil to Beirut.
Cocaine seizures in Lebanon are less frequent than that of Captagon pills.
In April 2021, a Lebanese man holding a Brazilian passport was arrested for trying to bring 11 kilos of cocaine from Brazil into Lebanon.
Lebanese authorities have recently ramped up efforts to counter drug production and trafficking — especially Captagon — following backlash from conservative Gulf nations.
