Three suspects arrested for stealing a safe from Gemmayzeh restaurant

BEIRUT — Three people have been arrested in relation to the theft of a safe containing LL400 million from a restaurant in Gemmayzeh, the Internal Security Forces announced on Saturday, adding that one of the detained individuals is an employee of the restaurant.

In a statement, the ISF said that the three detainees are suspected of forcibly entering the restaurant on Oct. 23 before stealing the safe. The ISF did not specify the name of the restaurant involved. 

The ISF added that after following the suspects, the arrests were made in the areas of Minyara and Ain al-Zahab in Akkar and LL61,500,000 of the stolen amount was recovered. Following investigations, the suspects confessed to stealing the safe in coordination with a fourth person and to having stolen electric cables in the areas of Minyeh, Jbeil and other towns, the ISF said. The ISF added that efforts are underway to arrest the fourth suspect.
