BEIRUT — Waterspouts were observed Wednesday along the coast in northern Lebanon, including off Mina in Tripoli and Batroun, according to L'Orient Today's correspondent in the area.

No injuries or damage have been reported so far.

Waterspouts are the equivalent of tornadoes, which are continental. They are generally less violent than their land-based form and usually last only a few minutes. Last May, a waterspout off the coast of Mina caused one injury and material damage on the seafront of this northern Lebanese town.

Additional reporting by Michel Hallak
