BEIRUT — Weakened by the economic crisis, COVID-19 pandemic and deteriorating state and hospital infrastructure, Lebanon is not immune to a cholera epidemic, experts have warned, including the World Health Organization. For the moment, 26 cases and one death have been confirmed, up from 18 earlier this week — all of them in northern Lebanon’s Akkar and Arsal. According to the most recent World Health Organization count, the cases in Lebanon come after more than 13,000 reported cholera cases and 60 deaths in neighboring Syria since August.But if cholera spreads across the country, would Lebanon have the means to treat all those infected and eradicate the sources of these contaminations?
