BEIRUT — Hezbollah central council member Nabil Kaouk on Sunday said that his party has made "important efforts in recent days to remove obstacles and speed up efforts for government formation," expressing hopes that a cabinet be formed before the end of September, as the mandate of President Michel Aoun expires on Oct. 31.

During a memorial service in Ramia village in South Lebanon, Kaouk said "formation of a government is in the interest of all Lebanese, because countering these crises and reducing them can't be done without a government with full empowerment and authority."

"Hezbollah has deployed important efforts in recent days to remove obstacles and speed up efforts for the formation of a fully capable government," he added.

Kaouk also said he hopes a government will be formed "before the end of September."

Hezbollah Secretary-General Hassan Nasrallah on Saturday called for "a consensus on the name" of a candidate for the presidency "far from the political vetoes."

The country entered its presidential election period, which lasts two months, at the beginning of September. Fears, however, are mounting of the risk of a complete vacancy in the country's executive power should Aoun's mandate expire without a new government having been formed.
