BEIRUT — Protesters blocked the road around caretaker Prime Minister Najib Mikati's house in Mina, Tripoli Friday evening, according to L'Orient Today's correspondent in the North.

Here's what we know:

• Demonstrators blocked the road with burning tires to protest deteriorating living conditions and electricity cuts in the region, according to L'Orient Today's correspondent.

• Earlier in the day Friday, during a parliamentary discussion on the 2022 budget, Mikati call on Parliament to prioritize "national [interest] over populism, and we should not stay in a state of denial."

"I didn't run for the [2022] parliamentary elections because I knew non-populist decisions should be taken," Mikati added.

• Tripoli, the poorest city in Lebanon, has been struggling with economic instability and a rising crime rate, which pushed caretaker Interior Minister Bassam Mawlawi to take security measures to contain the situation in the region. Caretaker Prime Minister Najib Mikati is from Tripoli.
