BEIRUT — During the burial of three people of the same family killed on Wednesday in Kabiit town shooting in Akkar, the family of the victims vowed Friday to “take matters into their own hands” if security officials don’t take action immediately and arrest the perpetrators, L’Orient Today’s correspondent reported.

The Kabiit shooting happened after a gunfight broke out over a dispute “over a few meters of land” and over the construction of a hall adjacent to the “al-Rabieh” hall, which was owned by the family.

The owner of the hall venue was killed, along with his wife and son.

Deadly armed clashes have been on the rise in Lebanon’s north amid a deepening economic crisis.

Last Friday, clashes at a phone shop in Tripoli’s al-Tal neighborhood killed four people, including two brothers and the shop’s owner. Another person was left injured. The assailants reportedly used military-grade weapons.

On Monday, another armed clash, reportedly between family members, left one person dead in Tripoli's Abi Samra neighborhood.

Reacting to these incidents, on Tuesday, caretaker Interior Minister Bassam Mawlawi announced a "sustainable" security plan was devised for North Lebanon.
