Lebanese Foreign Ministry condemns Israeli attacks on Damascus and Aleppo airports

BEIRUT — Lebanon's Foreign Affairs Ministry on Wednesday evening condemned the "repeated Israeli attacks" on the airports of Damascus and Aleppo in Syria and considered it "a violation of sovereignty and a direct threat to international peace." The Foreign Affairs Ministry also expressed its "solidarity" with Syria on this occasion.

Here's what we know:

    • In a statement published on Twitter, the Foreign Ministry said that it "condemns the repeated Israeli attacks on the international airports of Damascus and Aleppo in Syria which resulted in damages in civil ports and making the civil planes' movements and civilians prone to danger." 

    • "The ministry sees these attacks as a clear violation to the international laws and customs, and a violation of sovereignty and a direct threat on international peace and it solidarizes in this context with Syria." 

    • On Tuesday Israel launched an air raid on the Aleppo airport in northwestern Syria. Prior to this, on Aug. 31, Israel fired rockets at the Aleppo airport, which resulted in material damage, according to Syrian state media. While in June, Israeli airstrikes near the capital's airport caused the Damascus airport to shut down.
