BEIRUT — A fire of criminal origin, which broke out on Sunday in a dry grass and wooded area adjacent to the eastern lane of the Damour highway, on the coast of the Chouf region south of Beirut, was quickly brought under control, confirmed a spokesperson from the Civil Defense to L'Orient-Le Jour.

Here's what we know:

    • The Civil Defense, as well as police officers from the municipality of Damour, quickly intervened and managed to extinguish the flames. The Civil Defense spokesperson said they were also able to identify the alleged perpetrators of the fire.

The lack of means and resources by the Civil Defense to fight against forest fires, in a country in the midst of a socio-economic crisis, complicates their ability to adequately respond to these occurrences.
