BEIRUT — A pregnant woman was killed and several other people injured amid an armed clash Friday morning between reported smugglers in the Jabal Akrom area of northern Lebanon’s Akkar governorate near the Syrian border, according to L’Orient Today’s correspondent in the area.
Here’s what we know:
• Security forces reportedly arrived at the scene of the clash and began investigations to identify the perpetrators. It was not immediately clear how many people had been injured during the incident or why the clash, which took place between people reported to be smugglers, began.
• The pregnant woman's body was taken to a nearby hospital following the clash, our correspondent reported. An image that circulated Friday morning via social media showed what appeared to be the woman’s lifeless body lying on the ground with a towel covering her head.
