BEIRUT — The fire that broke out in the forests of Qabeit Akkar, North Lebanon, is completely under control following efforts from the Civil Defense volunteers at the Sadaqah Center, the Akkar Forest Firefighter Team, and the first responders team in the Jdeidet al-Qoteih’s Municipalities Union, L’Orient Today’s correspondent in North Lebanon reported.
Here’s what we know:
• The teams will be monitoring the area in the coming hours after they have cooled some hotspots out of fear of renewed fire.
• The wind’s speed was contributing to further spreading the fire and approaching a residential area, according to L’Orient Today’s correspondent.
• The Environment Ministry warned earlier this month of an increased fire risk in Lebanon. Fire index maps published by the laboratory of the University of Balamand have been recently indicating an elevated risk of fire across Lebanese regions.
