Student arrested after killing a pedestrian in a car accident takes school exam

BEIRUT — The student H.M., who was arrested for causing the death of a person as a result of a car accident, took the state official high school exams on Wednesday at the police station where he is detained, the state-run National News Agency reported.

Here’s what we know:

    • According to the NNA, the detained student, 19, took his exams at Burj Al-Molouk police station in Marjayoun, South Lebanon, after he was granted an approval of the Discriminatory Public Prosecution and the supervision of the Education Ministry and the police officers.

    • The spokesperson for the Internal Security Forces told L’Orient Today on Wednesday that any detainee can submit an application requesting to sit for his or her official exams. The spokesperson added that this event where detainees sit for their official exams “is a regular occurrence and happens almost every year.”

    • According to ISF’s spokesperson, H.M. was driving a car to school with his sister in the passenger seat when he ran a pedestrian over. The arrest took place on June 1, 2022. The student awaits a ruling from the Discriminatory Public Prosecution on whether or not he will go to jail.

    • Wednesday marked the beginning of official examinations for high schools, state diplomas for the completion of high school education.
