BEIRUT — Following a meeting with Prime Minister-designate Najib Mikati on Monday, Deputy Parliament Speaker Elias Bou Saab said he senses the former’s “eagerness to form [a government] quickly.”
Here’s what we know:
• Speaking at a press conference following the meeting, Bou Saab said he asked Mikati to form a government “that is able to follow up on the preliminary agreement with the International Monetary Fund, keep pace with the process of demarcating maritime borders, and establish the restoration of normal relations with all Arab countries, the Arab Gulf states and the international community, as well as reconsideration of the Kuwaiti initiative.”
• He added, “I sensed President Mikati’s eagerness to form quickly and cooperate with President of the Republic Gen. Michel Aoun.”
• In response to a reporter’s question, at the press conference, who asked whether the Lebanese government would cooperate with Syria, he replied that he considers it “normal for there to be cooperation and communication with the Syrian government.”
