BEIRUT — The Health Ministry reported 861 new COVID-19 cases on Wednesday, which is significantly higher than previous reports in the past few weeks.
Here’s what we know:
• Lebanon has been seeing low numbers of cases infected with the coronavirus for the past several months — the highest daily average of cases reported was on Feb. 5, according to Reuters’ COVID-19 tracker. Two weeks ago, on June 8, there were 195 reported positive cases.
• The Health Ministry reported on Wednesday a COVID-19 testing positivity rate of 8.9 percent, 16 new hospital admissions and eight deaths for the past seven days in Lebanon, raising the total number of deaths to 10,456.
• Vaccination for children between the ages of 5 and 11 started on Monday.
