BEIRUT — Firefighters, Civil Defense, the Lebanese Army and volunteers from the area and the Akkar volunteer firefighting group managed to extinguish the fire that had broken out in the locality of Safinat al-Katyaa, in Akkar (North Lebanon) late Friday, L’Orient Today’s correspondent in North Lebanon reported.

Here’s what we know:

    • According to our correspondent, the flames devoured oaks, pines and grassy areas near olive groves, fueled by high temperatures and strong winds, before finally being brought under control. The firefighters present on the scene continued, in the evening, to cool the area in order to avoid a resumption of the fire.

    • Earlier today, another fire broke out in front of the military academy in Fayadieh, in the southeastern suburbs of Beirut, devastating a green space bordering the road.

    • On Wednesday, a large fire, which was suspected to be deliberately set, ravaged the largest pine forest in Lebanon, near the villages of Btormaz and Sfireh, in the region of Dennieh, before it was extinguished.
