BEIRUT — Deputy Parliament Speaker Elias Bou Saab said Saturday that Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri is “committed to starting work as soon as possible on all subjects,” after a meeting between the two at the latter’s residence in Ain al-Tineh.
Here’s what we know:
• Bou Saab added that the subjects include “electing parliamentary committees” and “subjects pending since the previous government” which have been discussed in meetings between him, Berri and President Michel Aoun with the aim of reaching a “resolution.”
• The deputy speaker noted a “positive” response from Berri regarding all subjects and assured he would be transmitting it to the president, saying that “God willing, we will be able to show the Lebanese in the coming days that good things can happen and lead to more [good things].”
• Following the Parliamentary Elections and the election of a Parliament Speaker and a Deputy Parliament Speaker, MPs will elect Parliamentary Committees Tuesday. After which there are fears of political instability as a cabinet must be formed following consultations between parliamentary groups and the president.
