Union for the disabled demands BDL release donated funds

BEIRUT —The Lebanese Union for People with Physical Disabilities held a protest in front of Banque du Liban demanding the immediate release of funds belonging to institutions and associations for people with special needs.

Here’s what we know:

    • Caretaker Social Affairs Minister Hector Hajjar took part in the protest and stated that BDL governor Riad Salameh should facilitate the bank transfers for these associations and allow the withdrawal of all the donations they received from abroad.

    • Hajjar stated that the agreement of BDL to grant 40 percent of the money donated to charitable associations transferred in the year 2021 in cash was not confirmed yet.

    • Children with physical disabilities and special needs also participated in the protest, holding up signs demanding they receive equal treatment by the government.
