BEIRUT – Caretaker Foreign Minister Abdallah Bou Habib met with the Russian and Chinese ambassadors to Lebanon on Thursday and discussed renewing the services of the United Nations Interim Force In Lebanon, the state-run National News Agency reported.
Here’s what we know:
• According to the NNA, Bou Habib asked the Russian ambassador to Lebanon, Alexander Rudakov, and the Chinese ambassador, Wang Kejian, for their respective countries' endorsement of a renewal decree which reinforces its support for the Lebanese Army patrols working in South Lebanon and provides them with petrol, gas and medical services.
• The United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon is a peacekeeping mission that has been operating since 1978 to ensure no violence erupts between Israel and Lebanon. The mission’s mandate has been amended several times after Israel’s repeated invasions and attacks on Lebanon.
