BEIRUT — The Amal Movement’s parliamentary bloc Monday called on Najib Mikati’s caretaker government and its ministers to “not to abandon responsibilities” in the matters of “social, health and financial” issues, the state-run National News Agency reported.
Here’s what we know:
• According to the NNA, the parliamentary bloc, led by Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri, also said that “it is not acceptable on [a] national and principle level that an authority abandons its responsibilities of taking care of and protecting its citizens from the greed of the hoarders and black market traders of products, the currency, medicine, water and electricity.”
• Regarding Tuesday’s Parliamentary session, Amal “thanks all the blocs and fellow MPs for supporting the bloc of backing its head as a Parliament speaker and thanks in advance all the MPs despite their stances.”
• Earlier on Monday, Berri called on the Lebanese to refrain from shooting in the air to celebrate the election of a new Parliament speaker, a position to which Berri will almost certainly be re-elected to on Tuesday.
