BEIRUT — Bread prices, which were revised and raised last week, rose again on Friday against the backdrop of increased fuel prices.

Here’s what we know:

    • New prices published by the Economy Ministry show that 825 grams of bread bundles cost LL15,000. Previously weighing 855 grams, the bread bundles used to cost LL13,000. The small 365 grams package costs 9,000 LL, compared to the previous weight of 388 grams sold at LL8,000. The ministry did not communicate the price of the large bread bundles which was set at LL16,000 last Friday for 1,095 grams.

    • This increase in bread prices is linked to rising fuel prices, which directly influence the cost of bread production and its transportation. The price of wheat is also rising internationally due to the Russian invasion of Ukraine.

    • Earlier on Friday, the Energy Ministry hiked diesel and gas prices, while the national currency continued to lose its value at the black market, reaching LL37,000 at the time this was written.
