BEIRUT— Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri has called newly elected Parliament members to convene for a Parliament session on Tuesday at 11 a.m. The first item on the agenda is the election of a new speaker. Parliament must also vote on a deputy speaker.

Here’s what we know:

    • Some newly elected MPs last week voiced their refusal to re-elect Nabih Berri as Parliament speaker. Berri, who heads the Amal Movement, has served uninterrupted as speaker since 1992.

    • The session will be the first of the newly elected Parliament and will take place at the Parliament building in Nejmeh Square in Downtown Beirut.

    • Elections were held on May 15 in Lebanon, with their results announced days after. Thirteen opposition MPs have secured seats in the Parliament and the Hezbollah alliance has lost its majority.
