BEIRUT — Hezbollah's parliamentary group met on Wednesday for the first time after the legislative elections and expressed the “need for a calm and objective approach to improving electoral law and performance in order to achieve a realistic expression of the will of the citizens.”

Here’s what we know:

    • In a statement issued after its weekly meeting, the group called on "all political forces, all currents and all competing parties to stop the electoral debates and to work immediately to improve the miserable situation of the citizens, the state and its institutions.”

    • The parliamentary group said it was "satisfied and proud of the precious trust the people have placed" in its members. They also "congratulated all the other representatives who have won the confidence of the people to represent them in Parliament", and said that they would " reach out for positive cooperation in the best interests of the country.” The Hezbollah MPs also said they are committed to "working for the interests of Lebanon [to become] sovereign, free and resistant,”

    • Though new parliamentary alliances have not been solidified, Sunday’s elections appear to have resulted in a setback for Hezbollah, Amal, the Free Patriotic Movement and their allies, which will most likely see them losing their majority in Parliament. The Lebanese Forces became the biggest Christian party in Parliament, with 19 seats, compared with 17 seats belonging to the Free Patriotic Movement, Hezbollah’s ally.

    • Monday, the head of Hezbollah’s outgoing parliamentary bloc Mohammad Raad, warned his political rivals, saying "don't fan the flames of civil war.”
